Les Cigales dans la Fourmilière
Montpeyroux - Languedoc, FR
Les Cigales dans la Fourmilière, or Cicadas in the Anthill, is the collaboration of Julie Brosselin and Ivo Ferreira. Ivo began his career as a sommelier in Paris, but before long felt the pull to make wine himself. He studied at Château Le Puy, the biodynamic estate in Bordeaux known for its openness to working without sulfur, and later spent time with Jean Marc Brignot, a close friend whose winemaking has taken him from the Jura to the Ardèche and even to Japan.
Eventually, Ivo moved south, drawn by the possibility of more accessible land. There he began making wine under the Domaine de l’Escarpolette label, and it was during this period that he met Julie. Julie had traveled widely and made wine in many places, though her turn toward natural wine came more recently. Before joining forces with Ivo, she worked at Le Petit Domaine alongside her former husband.
Together, they make wines that reflect the warmth and openness of the Mediterranean landscape. For me, their bottles evoke long afternoons in southern France, the light lingering late into the evening. The wines are nimble and easygoing, carried by a subtle saline edge that seems to drift inland from the nearby sea.
