Epfig - Alsace, FR

Lambert Spielmann, a native of Alsace, grew up in the punk scenes of Strasbourg before training as a social worker, focusing on mental health and motor impairment. Music remained a constant in his life, and it was through that world that he first encountered natural wine. One night, while attending a punk show in the caves of François Saint Lô in the Loire, he tasted his first bottles. The spark was immediate.

Not long after, Lambert returned to Alsace and made the decision to change paths. He began working in Epfig under the guidance of Domaine Yves Amberg. With Yves’s support, he was able to secure his first small parcels of vines and produced his earliest wines in 2017 and 2018.

In 2019, he began working part time with Christophe Lindenlaub to further refine his craft. That same year, he made some of his first fully independent wines in the village of Saint Pierre, just south of Epfig. Today, Lambert farms roughly three hectares of vines spread across small parcels throughout the region.

One of his key vineyards lies beneath the Rocher du Falkenstein, tucked into a narrow valley above sandstone soils. This parcel, located in the area known as Richsfeld, accounts for nearly half of his production. Additional vines are found in Dambach la Ville, Epfig, Nothalten, and Obernai.

Lambert’s wines are fresh and expressive, often made in an infusion style that emphasizes aroma, depth, and drinkability. They move easily between worlds, appearing both on Michelin starred tasting menus in Alsace and on the most unassuming tables of Parisian wine bars. They are wines with range, made as much for pleasure as for moments of seriousness.
